Every year, on Easter Sunday, the cart is drawn by four oxen to the Piazza del Duomo. At twelve o'clock a rocket in the form of a dove is launched from the high altar and runs along a wire to reach the cart where it sets off the fireworks.

Sunday of the Ascension
Cascine Park
Every year on the Sunday of the Ascension, a lively market is held in the Cascine Park, where it is possible to buy crickets in brightly-coloured cages. In the past, it was the custom for young men to deck with flowers the doors and windows of the dwellings of their sweethearts, and to present them with the gift of a cricket.

On 19, 24 and 28 June, three football matches are played in Piazza Santa Croce, with over 500 actors and players in sixteenth-century costumes. The four teams represent the four historic districts of the city centre.

Every year, on 24 June, the city celebrates its patron, St. John. In the morning a procession leaves from Palazzo Vecchio, bearing candles to te saint. In the evening a firework dispay is held in Piazzale Michelangelo.

This is the children's feast; every year on 7th September they carry lanterns suspended at the end of sticks, known as "rifilicone", through the streets and squares of the city.
